Lots of people have told me how much they dislike the word "cyber". Admittedly, it's now routinely put in front of any noun or verb. I agree it is overused, but my question is what's the alternative? "Data" or "Digital" doesn't catch the network aspect and "Information' is old school. Maybe we should have a contest.
In any case, I did a quick run on how frequently the word has been used in the last couple of decades (the chart below): use started to pick up in '91, rapid increase in '94, peaked in 2004, and has declined slightly since then, according to this "search of lots of books on Google" data tool.
